Dumaguete City 6200
Tel. 035 225 1687

Established in 1992, Mariyah Gallery in Dumaguete City Negros Oriental Philippines has been dedicated to the promotion and advancement of art and culture. It is the coordinating and implementing body of the Dumaguete Open Biennial Terra Cotta Art Festival Exhibit and Competition, which successfully launched its first year of series of events in 2005.

Haven to visual artists, the Gallery also hosts other events. The Gallery offers its space to activities like the Philippine Writing Workshop, directed
Show more by the National Artist for Literature, Dr. Edith L. Tiempo. It also lends its space and extends its services to performers based in the locality and neighboring provinces. In 1994, it assisted the
Visayas Islands Visual Artists Exhibit and Conference (VIVA-ExCon) hold their
series of activities in Dumaguete City. It also initiates Art Workshops for children and adults during summer and for every opportunity if afforded by time.

The Gallery offers a Residency Program on Terra Cotta to artists that show high interest in the medium. The Residency is held every two year with the main objective of meeting one requirement of the Terra Cotta Biennial, that is to produce well-meaning terra cotta works for the Special Exhibition, one of the relevant features of the Biennial. The Residency is also a vital step for the Gallery’s interest on the resulting application of clay as a medium on the following considerations: the artist’s contemporary pursuit in art making, art form, artistic motivation(s), and discourses that come with every attempt of using the medium.

One of the objectives of the Gallery at present is to continue its studies on the different clay types that can be found in the island of Negros, and on related matters that might be of profound relevance to the continuity of the artist’s interest in exploring the medium and the tradition of the potter.

Although the Gallery gives preference to project related art exhibition (s), it
accepts proposals for art exhibitions on any medium from individual artist or group of artists whose aims or offers are good.

Also home to Cristina “Kitty” S. Taniguchi, Maria S. Taniguchi and Danni Sollesta, Mariyah Gallery is located within the city area. It is approximately 3 to 5 minute ride from the Dumaguete Airport, the Dumaguete Warf, and the commercial area. It has an extensive garden that is used for sculptures and other installations, and has a wall area that can accommodate at least 10 to 15 regular size paintings.

Mariyah Gallery was a member of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – National Committee on Art Galleries from June 2005 to present. It is duly registered with the Security and Exchange Commission Office and the Department of Trade and Industry.
