2channel (2ちゃんねる ni channeru, often shortened to 2ch) is a popular Japanese textboard founded in 1999. It has become a significant part of Japanese society, rivaling the reach of traditional mass media such as TV, radio, and magazines. In 2007, the site boasted an impressive 2.5 million posts per day, and generated an annual revenue of ¥100 million for its founder Hiroyuki Nishimura. Between 2009 and 2014, the website was operated by Packet Monster Inc. in Chinatown, Singapore. Today, it is estimated that around ten million users access 2channel each day, making it one of the most popular online communities in Japan.
